UC Clermont, eText Jam Sessions, 2017-18 Universal Provider Award
On December 11, 2017, Elicia Flom and Jason Day received this notification from Dr. Keisha Love, Associate Provost for Faculty Development and Special Initiatives:
This year the Office of the Provost provided $225,000 to support the Universal Provider Award initiative. The selection committee received a robust pool of applications and had the difficult task of selecting proposals to fund. The committee evaluated proposals on several factors such as project need, quality of the professional development project/experience, project impact, project sustainability, provider expertise, and the likelihood of completion.
I’m pleased to inform you that the committee voted to fund $19,693.00 toward your project, which is full funding minus the iPads. The committee identified a number of strengths with your proposal and are happy to see the eText initiative move forward. Congratulations on your award!
With funding for 12 MacBooks, 12 wireless mice and 5 Apple TVs, Elicia and Jason crafted the 8-part Jam Session Series dedicated to helping faculty, increase student engagement with learning content (digital text) through the Universal Design for Learning framework, develop skills in Apple's iBooks Author, Pages, Numbers, Keynote, GarageBand and iMovie programs, extend their expertise in accessibility (504/508/ADA) to support their ongoing eText projects.

eText Jam Session: Learn, Design & Share, Kickoff
January 19, 2017, eText...Learn, Design & Share, (Kickoff event for UC Clermont College eText Initiative)
The Center for Excellence in eLearning (CEeL) has loaned the UC Clermont Instructional Design & eLearning team two iMac computers hosting the iBooks Author application for professors working on interactive eTexts (digital textbooks, manuals, handouts) for their courses.
Jason Day (Sr. Instructional Technologist & Apple Foundation Trainer) along with Kent Meloy (Creative Team Director, CEeL & Filmmaker/Musician) have been traveling to UC Clermont to lend their support to professors and staff developing eTexts as part of the university-wide initiative.
In this Jam Session, Jason and Kent will be sharing the background on “UC eText Initiative” and how you can join in. Faculty and staff are building “eText” most ever day to support their courses, help notes/handouts. It’s possible that many educators have authored numerous eTexts but just haven’t had time to get their eTexts available through their bookstores or to share online.
In addition to Jason and Kent, Elicia Flom (Director, Instructional Design & eLearning, Sr. Instructional Designer) and Scott Liming (Instructional Media Specialist) will be on hand to share planning resources to help organize the text, photo, video components into an eText that supports formative assessment, and interactive components.
